A night here

    In from the cold

    No sign worth mentioning. A door, a short flight of stairs, and then it is much warmer and much darker than the street you just left.

  2. 02

    The first one, stirred

    Tell whoever is behind the bar roughly what you feel like. They will not hand you a menu unless you ask for one, and they are usually right.

  3. 03

    Then the room fills

    Around ten it goes from quiet to full without ever getting loud. The music comes up a little. Nobody makes you move along.

  4. 04

    And then last call

    One more, slowly, while the lights come up half a stop. This is the part the bar was built for.

The list

What we pour most

Twelve drinks on the card, half of them stirred. It changes a few times a year, and these have earned their place on it.

    Quarter Past

    The house drink and the reason for the name. Rye, sweet vermouth, a bitter amaro and a wide strip of orange. Stirred, never anything else.

    The Long Way Home

    Mezcal, rosemary set alight and put out under the glass, lime and a little honey. Smells like a bonfire and drinks like a cocktail.

    Gin, cucumber, dry vermouth and a pinch of salt. The one people order when they say they do not know what they want.

About

Built for the hour
after everywhere else.

Two of us opened this in 2019 after a decade of working other people’s late shifts. We wanted the bar we kept looking for at half past midnight and could never find.

So: thirty seats, no television, no queue at the door, and a list short enough that everyone behind the bar can make all of it properly.

It is not a loud room and it is not trying to be a restaurant. It is somewhere to end the night, or to have the conversation you did not get to have over dinner.
